Community Advocate October 2023: Thanksgiving Heroes

Each month, The Advocates Injury Attorneys team up with Good Things Utah to recognize an individual or organization that makes our Utah communities great. This month, our honoree is Rob Adams and his organization, Thanksgiving Heroes.

What Is Thanksgiving Heroes?

Thanksgiving Heroes is a Salt Lake City-based nonprofit that works to ensure every Utahn gets a Thanksgiving meal. Each year, the organization provides more than 3,000 families with food.

Rob Adams, the founder of Thanksgiving Heroes, grew up in poverty in South Texas. He loved going to school for many reasons, not least of which was the guarantee of a meal. Throughout his childhood, he benefitted from the generosity of members of his community, particularly during the holidays. Years later, he decided to pay it forward by distributing meals to other families facing food insecurity.

In 2015, Rob, along with his friends, family, and community members, fed 755 families in the area at Thanksgiving time. Today, they feed thousands of families each year through volunteer work, food donations, and nominations of families in need. Rob says that this accomplishment didn’t just provide food and hope to families in need–it fostered a sense of community and reinforced the spirit of kindness that the holidays bring.

How Can I Get Involved?

One in ten Utah residents faces food insecurity every day. At Thanksgiving Heroes, they hope to make a positive impact on local families in need, but they rely on the help of the community to do so.

There are four ways to team up with Thanksgiving Heroes this holiday season:

  1. Donate monetarily: It takes over $250,000 to curate the large volume of food required to help these families. Donate here.
  2. Volunteer to deliver meals: Join over 1,000 volunteers in delivering meals to families in need and show your commitment to the community.
  3. Nominate a family in need: If you know of a family struggling during this holiday season, you can help make their holiday special. Nominate a family here.
  4. Help spread the mission of Thanksgiving Heroes: Share the Thanksgiving Heroes story and inspire others to join the movement, so we can collectively make a lasting impact.

If you would like to donate food items, The Advocates are accepting donations at our Ogden, Murray, and American Fork offices through Wednesday, November 22. You can also make a financial donation on Venmo to @AdvocatesDonations.

Your support can be the beacon of hope for families in need, and together, we can create a brighter holiday season for those who need it most. We believe that it’s not just about the food; it’s about the hope and the sense of community that Thanksgiving Heroes brings.
