Established in 1992, The Advocates are personal injury and accident attorneys serving Utah with the mission of protecting individual rights for people who have been injured or involved in an accident. The Advocates strive to provide exceptional legal services while developing a personal relationship with their clients while fighting on their behalf, and to accommodate clients to the best of their ability, helping to aid in their recovery.
Our goal at The Advocates is to protect our clients’ rights, ensure they are adequately compensated, and facilitate and aid in their recovery. From car accidents to defective drug lawsuits, our firm has the experience you need. We are skilled and experienced enough to handle large cases against corporations and insurance companies, yet small enough to offer the personal, hands-on approach clients want from their law firm.
Our lawyers and staff promise to work hard to exceed your expectations. We work hard not just to meet our clients’ needs, but to anticipate them–providing an individual approach to each client to aid in recovery. We regularly ask for feedback on our services, as client input is extremely valuable in helping us develop our personal approach to injury law. In all of our practice areas, we have developed relationships with a variety of companies, businesses, and people to make processing your case as smooth as possible.
We believe that you should talk to an attorney about your case, not a paralegal. We promise that when you call The Advocates about a personal injury or accident case, you will talk to an attorney. You can call us now at (801) 326-0809 and discuss your case with an attorney, or enter your information in our case evaluation form and an attorney will contact you to discuss your case. We truly care about our clients and want to help everyone get back on their feet.
The Advocates are dedicated to giving back to the communities we live and work in. From joining existing charitable organizations in Utah, to starting new events that help bring people together, we are committed to being a strong and positive force in the community. We have an annual charitable motorcycle ride where the proceeds are donated to charities across Utah. We participate in a number of holiday events collecting food and supplies for those in need, particularly at Halloween and Thanksgiving, though we like to help out year-round. We have also started a scholarship for college students in Utah to help with tuition costs. Being a positive influence in the community is a large part of who we are at The Advocates.
In December of 1991, the founding partner of the law firm, Matthew Driggs, completed law school at the University of Utah. Matt began practice as a solo practitioner. For the next four years, he practiced in the Salt Lake City area with a primary focus on injury law and estate planning.
In January of 1996, Matt purchased the office building located at 331 South 600 East, Salt Lake City, Utah and formed the law firm Driggs, Osborn, and Huang PC.
In the next few years, many changes were to come. In 1998, the law firm hired attorney Kenneth Bills, and later in 2000, the firm hired Steven Day. Shortly thereafter, the law firm changed its name to Driggs, Bills, and Day PC. During the first several years, the attorneys at Driggs, Bills, and Day practiced general litigation including personal injury law and product liability.
In 2002, the lawyers began advertising to acquire clients injured by the drug Fen-Phen. This was a major product liability case at the time. Over the next 2 years, the law firm grew as it represented thousands of clients injured by Fen-Phen. During that time, offices were opened throughout the northwest including offices in Boise, Billings, Helena, Missoula, Spokane, Seattle, and Portland. The attorneys wanted to be available in other cities for their clients who needed help. These smaller offices allowed a personal touch to clients in other states. Over the next few years, Driggs, Bills, and Day recovered over 100 million dollars for their clients. Driggs, Bills, and Day has continued to represent many clients who have been injured by defective and dangerous medical products and drugs including: Vioxx, Yazz/Yasmin, Xarelto, and IVC filters.
As Fen-Phen litigation began to slow, the firm started to take on other injury cases and focus its practice on personal injury law including selected product liability cases, committing to become the premier injury law firm in Utah.
Driggs, Bills, and Day began taking referrals from other law firms and lawyers who couldn’t help the clients. From 2005 until 2009 the majority of the clients had been referred by other law firms. In 2009, Driggs, Bills, and Day rebranded and began advertising. At this time they chose the name, “The Advocates.” Matt Driggs wanted a brand and firm name that meant something to the clients, and truly reflected the firm’s values and commitment to its clients.
Throughout the years, the attorneys at The Advocates – Driggs, Bills, & Day have consistently represented their clients in a professional and caring way. Several of the attorneys have been awarded prestigious awards including an AV rating from Martindale Hubbell, recognition from Super Lawyers, and awards from Utah Business magazine.
The Advocates continue to focus efforts on bettering their system and firm so each and every client is served well, and all expectations are exceeded.
