A woman was recently killed in a tragic horse accident on Interstate 15 early Thursday morning. The woman was traveling on the interstate in Washington County when a horse suddenly appeared on the roadway.
Utah Highway Patrol were the first to respond shortly after 1:30 a.m. on I-15 near Leeds, Utah.
According to UHP, “Troopers began to respond to the area to locate the horses. However, before we could arrive, a black Hyundai Veloster traveling (north) struck a black horse in the left lane.”
“After impact, the vehicle continued north about another half mile and struck the media cable barrier,” stated the UHP.
The woman, whose name has not yet been released, was apparently a young female who was killed on impact due to the horse accident, according to accident investigators.
The number of horses on the road is still unknown but Sergeant Nick Street, of the UHP, reported that there were more than one.
An investigation will be conducted to determine how the horses got loose and whether there will be charges pressed against the owner of the horses.
