How to Avoid Tired Driving
Impaired driving can have many different meanings, and they don’t all involve drugs or alcohol. One of the most dangerous things you can do is drive while tired. Drowsy driving causes drivers to miss exits or signage, like a stop or one-way sign. It may also cause lane swerving and decrease reaction times, leading to an increased risk of accidents.
Luckily, avoiding tired driving is as easy as getting a good night’s sleep. For long drives, have a friend with you who can keep you awake. If you take medication that can make you drowsy, plan your day around when you need to take your meds. If you’re tired, caffeine may help, but be careful not to go overboard. Too much caffeine can impair driving.
If you’re involved in a distracted driving accident, seeking the help of an Advocate should always be your first step.
