Keeping your children safe
A recent story followed by the Salt Lake Tribune has brought attention to the importance of keeping your children – and animals – safe in the car when it isn’t running. According to Tribune writer Pamela Manson, a 1 1/2-year-old boy was left alone in the car for 2 ½ hours after his mother drove home sick from church and forgot he was in the vehicle.
The father found his son in the car, and called the paramedics. When the paramedics arrived, the boy had a temperature of 105 degrees – the car was 154 degrees – but is expected to recover. What is a safe time and temperature to leave your child or animal in the car at? The American Veterinary Medical Association made a table that showed how a certain outside temperature would increase the inside temperature of the car during an elapsed period of time.
