All 30 Passengers Were Injured in Chinese Tour Bus Crash
At least 4 people were killed in a tragic Chinese tour bus crash near Bryce Canyon National Park in southern Utah.
The Chinese tour bus crash occurred Friday morning near a rest stop on Highway 12 in Garfield County. There were 30 people, including the driver, on the tour bus that morning when it “ran off the road and rolled into the guard rail,” said an officer from Garfield County Sheriff’s Office.
The bus slammed into a guard rail and rolled over on its side, leaving the top of the bus completely smashed in and the sides damaged. The tour bus crashed around 11:30 a.m. only 7 miles away from being at Bryce Canyon’s park entrance.
More than 12 passengers suffered very critical injuries in the bus crash and at least ten other passengers had minor to severe injuries as well, according to Utah Highway Patrol. All the victims were sent to three different hospitals. 17 people were sent to Garfield Memorial Hospital. Patients were also taken to Cedar City and St. George, Utah.
The names of the four victims killed in the Chinese tour bus crash were released by UHP.
According to the police, the driver of the tour bus was making his first bus trip for a company that has only been open for a short period of time.
The driver is currently under investigation. Authorities say he did not appear to be intoxicated.
The National Transportation Safety Board is researching the company’s inspection history and hiring practices, as well as their safety procedures, said the Utah Highway Patrol. The bus company, America Shengjia Inc., which is based in Ontario, California, is cooperating respectively with investigators.
