Bringing out your everyday “kid-ult”
Eevee, Tauros, Oddish, Zubat! The game that once captured the millennial generation has come back in adulthood to reinvigorate their inner child.
What is Pokemon GO?
Gastly, Horsea, Venonat, Weedle! If you are unaware of what we are talking about – or have been living under a rock for the past month – Niantic and The Pokemon Company released Pokemon GO in the United States, July 6, as an application on your mobile phone. The app allows the player to roam around their city looking for hidden Pokemon to capture, battle and train. They can also get items at PokeStops and battle at the gyms.
Pokemon GO has Drastically Raised Personal Injury Occurrences
Bellsprout, Rattata, Growlithe, Meowth! While the entertainment factor of Pokemon GO has received raving reviews, the potential dangers of playing the game has brought about numerous personal injury reports since its release date. Despite the warning a player reads when opening the app – “Remember to be alert at all times. Stay aware of your surroundings.” – the Pokemon GO game has proven to be so addicting that there have been reports of distracted pedestrians and drivers; and players who have trespassed on another’s property to capture a Pokemon.
Professor of Law at Texas Tech University’s School of Law, Gerry Beyer, warned FOX News that “death by Pokemon is coming.”
The San Diego Union-Tribune reported that two men suffered from a personal injury, while playing Pokemon GO distracted, and fell off of a 90-foot ocean bluff. The Texas A&M Police tweeted a traffic accident after an illegally parked car was struck by a distracted driver who “had exited to catch a Pokemon.” The game has been racking up numbers of accidents, ER visits and even deaths daily.
How Can I Stay Safe While Gaming?
Nidoran, Caterpie, Spearow, Kakuna! While the game is addicting, the player’s safety concerns need to be their No. 1 priority. Play Pokemon GO safely by staying alert and aware of your surroundings at all times. NEVER play the game while you are on a bicycle, motorcycle or any kind of motorized vehicle to prevent any personal injuries. When you encounter a Pokemon, be aware that you can turn off the GPS by clicking the switch in the upper right hand corner. This will let you change directions and move without losing your Pokemon.
Have fun and PLAY SAFELY!
