Car Accidents in Utah
On just two days in December alone, over 100 accidents occurred in Utah.
According to Fox 13 Salt Lake City, between December 21 and 22, there were 54 accidents in Salt Lake County, 40 in Weber County, 20 in Davis County and 11 in Utah County.
The cause: an already harsh winter that has made roads icy and difficult to traverse.
Utah Highway Patrol trooper Evan Kirby told Good 4 Utah that many of these accidents could have easily been prevented by just reducing speed and paying better attention to the road.
“A lot of the times we drive so often we’re not paying as close attention as we should.
We need to make sure, especially during this kind of weather, we’re not on our phones. We’re not messing with the radio, we’re not putting on makeup or reading the newspaper,” Kirby said.
Kirby also provided comments to Fox 13 and stated that UHP officers are running into another problem out on the roads. In three weeks, there were three collisions with UHP vehicles as a result of other drivers not yielding when the patrol cars’ lights were flashing.
“So if you see the red and blue lights it’s a warning we’re doing something and you need to make sure you’re giving us some space and slow down for us,” Kirby said. “But not just us, plows, tow trucks. Anytime lights are flashing they’re out there working and you need to give them some space and courtesy and slow down for them.”
No matter how safe you think you are, accidents do happen. In those cases, contacting a personal injury attorney can help you handle the situation.
