Here at The Advocates, we strive to live by a set of core values. The first value listed is Focus on Others. While this is geared towards our client relations, we feel it is equally important to focus on others in the community. Matt Driggs, the founder of The Advocates, says that companies, like individuals have souls and that our souls feel richer when we put others before ourselves. We have been fortunate enough to participate in different service projects this year with great organizations here in Utah.
South Davis Community Hospital has given us many opportunities to serve the patients, in particular the younger patients, and help them feel a little bit of sunshine in difficult circumstances. For one child, we were able to revamp their room into their ultimate dream room so they would have a fun, new place to go back home to. During Halloween, we asked staff at The Advocates to donate candy and were able to deliver lots of goodies to trick-or-treaters who couldn’t leave the hospital. Seeing the happiness these small acts brought to these patients is motivating to do more.
Not only do we as a staff like to participate, we think it is fun when our clients get involved as well. This past November, some of the chiropractors we partner with took part in The Advocates Second Annual Turkey Shoot. While we didn’t actually shoot turkeys, it was a fun day of target shooting and everyone was encouraged to bring cans of food to donate to the Utah Food Bank. By the end of the day we had a car full of food that we were able to deliver just in time for Thanksgiving.
Other projects we have done this year include: serving dinner to the elderly, Sub 4 Santa, volunteered at the National Ability Center, and with the organization National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). Serving our community not only makes us richer as a company, but is a rewarding perk of being part of The Advocates. The New Year brings new opportunities for us to give back to the community and we can’t wait!
