A truck killed two people in a crash involving a group of motorcyclists. The crash occurred on US Route 89 not far from Kanab, Utah.
Utah Highway Patrol reported that a group of 8 motorcyclists was traveling along Highway 89 from Los Angeles to Sturgis, Montana when a white pickup truck plowed into the grouping of the riders.
The group of motorcyclists had split up after one rider turned back to retrieve a bag he had left behind at a restaurant. The rider joined by three other motorcyclists as they stopped at a pass. The driver of the pickup truck claimed he did not see the riders and drove directly into the group.

Two of the motorcyclists were killed in the crash. Ingreborg Treitinger, 62, a resident of Los Angeles, died at the scene of the collision. Brigit Stein, 50, from Germany, was transported to a local hospital and later died from the injuries suffered in the crash. The two other motorcyclists were injured, one minor and the other seriously enough to require an airlift to Dixie Regional Medical Center.
“He caught up to the front riders and let them know that he was turning back,” said Lieutenant Todd Royce of the Utah Highway Patrol. “He told them he would catch up after he picked up his bag. The one rider stopped to wait for traffic to pass when three other riders stopped with him, some of them in the travel lane. [The driver of the truck] applied his brakes but was unable to avoid a collision.”
The motorcyclists were in route to an annual motorcycle rally which begins today in Montana.
