The History of Driggs, Bills & Day P.C.–Personal Injury Law Firm to the Utah Advocates

In December of 1991, the founding partner, Matthew Driggs, completed law school at the University of Utah. Mr. Driggs began practice as a solo practitioner.  For the next 4 years he practiced in the Salt Lake City area with a primary focus on personal injury law and estate planning.

In January of 1996 Matthew Driggs purchased the office building located at 331 S. 600 E., Salt Lake City, Utah and formed the personal injury law firm of Driggs, Osborn and Huang P.C. to handle personal injury cases.

In 1998 the law firm hired attorney Kenneth Bills and later in 2000 hired Steven Day. Shortly thereafter the law firm changed its name to Driggs, Bills and Day P.C.  During the first several years the attorneys at Driggs, Bills and Day P.C practiced general litigation including personal injury law and product liability.

In 2002, the lawyers began advertising to acquire personal injury clients injured by the drug Fen Phen.  Over the next 2 years, the law firm grew as it represented thousands of personal injury clients injured by Fen Phen.  During that time offices were opened throughout the northwest, including offices in Boise, Billings, Helena, Missoula, Spokane, Seattle, and Portland. Over the next few years Driggs, Bills and Day P.C recovered over 100 million dollars for its personal injury clients’ personal injury cases. Driggs, Bills and Day P.C has continued to represent many clients who have been injured by defective and dangerous medical products and drugs including Vioxx and Yazz/Yasmin.

As Fen Phen litigation began to slow down the firm began to take on other injury cases and focus its practice entirely on personal injury law, including mass torts, committing to become the premier injury law firm in Utah.

Driggs, Bills and Day P.C began taking referrals from other law firms and lawyers. From 2005 until 2009 the majority of the clients had been referred by other law firms. In 2009, DBD began advertising as “The Advocates” because it represented the firm’s core values and commitment to its clients. As referrals from other law firms continued to come in, clients suffering from various injuries also came for help due to The Advocates’ ads.

Throughout the years the attorneys at Driggs, Bills and Day P.C have consistently represented their clients in a professional and caring way. Several of the attorneys have been awarded prestigious awards including an AV rating from Martindale Hubbell.

The attributes considered when endorsing a lawyer for an AV ® rating are usually knowledge and skill derived from extensive experience in the practice of law. This standard of excellence is determined by the lawyers’ peer review. Attorneys at Driggs, Bills and Day P.C have also received recognition from Super Lawyer and are recognized by Utah Business magazine.
